“Junshan New City Cup”
The First International College Students Green Smart City Design Competition
【TOPIC】
INTERGROWTH OF ORDERS:
Futuristic Healthcare Community and Barrier-Free Environment Design in Huangling Town, Wuhan
【TOPIC MAKER】
Meng Jianmin
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering
National Engineering Survey and Design Master
Vice President of Architectural Society of China

【BRIEF】

The achievement of healthcare includes the dual responses to natural orders and artificial orders. In the past, we were content to wait for a country road to grow naturally among many spontaneous choices, and then we produced all environmental elements out of the arrogance of rationality. Today, when we devote ourselves to an inclusive humanistic environment, we are supposed to find an intergrowth of natural order out of modern technological means.
This competition chooses certain areas in Huangling Town, Wuhan as project sites. Based on the natural settlement order of Huangling Town, we conceive the architectural form of a green healthcare community and its barrier-free environment design in light of a future smart city. The site of choice can be designed as a community service center or a healthcare center, focusing on the interpretation of healthcare community and settlement style under the collision of nature and man-made, psychology and body, history and new life, and human feelings and technology, and finally shaping an inclusive futuristic urban environment with the concept of the intergrowth of orders.

【SITE PROFILE】

The project sites of this competition are located in Huangling Town, Junshan New Town, Wuhan Economic Development Zone. There are two sites to choose from: the former site of the grain depot in Huangling Lane and the former site of Huangling Enamel Factory. Please choose one from these two sites.

Area 1:
Area 1 is the former site of the grain depot in Huangling Lane. On this site, some warehouses are still in use, and other buildings are vacant. The vegetation of the site is in good condition, and there is an open landscape view to the south. In your design, it is required to keep warehouses No. 1, 2, 3, and 4. Other buildings can be retained, modified, or demolished depending on your design. The area of the site is about 5.0 hectares, and the floor area ratio of your general plan should be lower than 1.0. Please refer to the CAD drawings for details.
Area 2:
Area 2 is the former site of Huangling Enamel Factory. On this site, all buildings are currently vacant. Red brick factory buildings No. 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, and two chimneys are historical buildings and require protection and utilization. The existing buildings other than the historical buildings can be retained, modified, or demolished depending on your design. The area of this site is about 1.6 hectares, and the floor area ratio of your general plan should be lower than 1.5. Please refer to the CAD drawings for details.
